In the first tournament of the season the two girls performed quite well at the Glamorgan trials. Sadie Edwards finished 6th and had a good win over Roomy Killick and Nicole Hall finished a credible 3rd position.
Always hard in the first tournament back so the girls did well. Nicole will compete in the junior championships held next weekend.

European Youth Championships - Report Day 4
BREAKING NEWS
With the team event coming to a close it is always nice to go out with wins. On Monday morning Charlotte and Nicole did just that with a 3-0 win against Norway in the 9am match.
Charlotte started well with a easy 3-0 victory against Berner and Nicole followed suit with the same score line versus Stine Folkeson, who was feeling ill on court and had to stop for 5 minutes. The pair had their hunger for success back.
They combined against the Norwegian females to secure the doubles win 3-1 (9-11, 11-8, 11-4, 12-10).
5pm local time is the next match vs Bulgaria or Azerbaijan.

European Youth Championships - Report Day 3
Wales lose close...
With Charlotte Carey being 2-1 and 9-8 up things looked positive for the team in the 4th event. After a good time-out, Charlotte came back to the table a different player and the Ebbw Vale player couldn't manage to keep the ball on the table against Liza Schempp enough to worry her opponent. She then lost a close 5th set which tied the match at 2-2 with Switzerland
Previously, Charlotte beat Elodie Gonzalez 3-0 but Nicole lost to Schempp 0-3 which made it 1-1 overall. With the doubles being a key event it looked good when the girls claimed it 3-1 and put us ahead. When Charlotte was defeated against Schempp it was up to Greenhouse player Nicole to bring the win home for us.
At 1-2 down but 9-8 ahead it looked possible for a little moment. Then with 3 easy unforced errors by Nicole the game was gone and Wales were defeated by the Swiss.
Tomorrow 9am local time against Norway.

Nicole flies the flag for Greenhouse at European championships
Two stars in the Greenhouse Sky shine
If it wasn’t for the Greenhouse charity the European Youth Championships, which is being played in Istanbul, Turkey this week, would be without two bright young UK talents.
Nicole Hall of Greenhouse Tonyrefail in South Wales and Igor Morais of Greenhouse WLA in West London have been able to reach the heights afforded to them by the charity, the named schools and their dedicated coaches who spend countless hours working on their skills.
Nicole, who at 15 years old, walked into the table tennis academy hall in Tonyrefail comprehensive school some 30 months ago, would by her own admission, be larking about in the streets in the Welsh summer holidays now school has finished with not much to do. Igor, 14, who was spotted as a talent at the feeder primary school to the West London Academy would be playing football with his mates in the park if table tennis wasn’t his life.
There’s nothing wrong with either stories should they not have taken up table tennis, but to be part of one of the biggest youth sporting competitions brings a sparkle to both children’s eyes when I ask them how they are managing to cope with the pressure of playing for their country.
I suspect that they are truly grateful to the Greenhouse charity, their schools and of course their coaching mentors....
From behalf of a former employee, Many Thanks Greenhouse!

European Youth Championships - Report Day 1
Latest News from Istanbul
Wales 1 - Italy 3
Things didn’t go the way it was planned in the match against Italy. With Charlotte defeating European number 61 Bianca Bracco 3-0 to give us a 1-0 lead we were looking for the win. Bracco is 47 places higher than Charlotte on the current European ranking list. Unfortunately Nicole fell short against Giorgia Piccolin (ranked at #65) 0-3; 9-11, 7-11, 8-11, which brought the match level at 1-1.
The doubles was the one that got away. With a 2-0 lead we squandered what would have been a great advantage in the last 3 sets going down 2-3, 9-11 in the 5th set. All credit must go to the change in tactics from the Italian coach when the tie got tight.
Charlotte then lost momentum in her last singles losing 0-3 to Piccolin to conclude the match.
Wales 0 – Lithuania 3
Against the group favourites it was always going to be hard. Losing 6 out of the 9 sets in the match 9-11 or 10-12 told its own story in that there is only belief needed to compete with some of Europe’s best players.
Charlotte went on first and lost against Preidziute who is ranked at #40. It was close with Charlotte going down 9-11, 10-12, 9-11. Nicole lost to Amelina who is a few places higher than her compatriot at #37 0-3 (9-11, 9-11, 4-11). The doubles was not as close as the singles 5-11, 7-11, 9-11, but it brought to light the areas that are needed for improvement in the next few months.

'Coach Of the Year'-TTAW
I am very proud and honoured to have recieved the Table Tennis Association of wales award for 'coach of the year'. It is nice to be recognised for all the hard work that has gone into the project over the past year. The competition was strong which makes it more satisfying.
I would like to dedicate the award to the kids for all their hard work(they have achieved so much this year) the parents who help and support the club and obviously Greenhouse Schools charity and the school that support me.
Thanks,
